Patna University (PU) has announced and issued a notification for postponement of all its postgraduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) exams scheduled between May 12 and 20 in light of a direction received from the district administration.
The postponement is due to election works as the campuses of Patna University & colleges are likely to be taken over by the administration during the period for election purposes, it will not be possible for the university to hold examinations. Elections to Patna Sahib and Pataliputra Lok Sabha constituencies are scheduled for May 19. The entire PU campus is being acquired to accommodate police forces and polling personnel and for parking vehicles.
According to PU pro-vice-chancellor Dolly Sinha, all the exams, which were be conducted during the period, are being rescheduled. “The PG semester IV examinations, which were earlier scheduled from May 15, will begin from May 24. Similarly, the PG semester II exams, which were scheduled from May 16, will now start from May 25,” said Sinha.
The entrance tests for admission to various vocational (self-financing) courses, which were scheduled during the period, have also been postponed. Fresh dates of these tests will be announced shortly. However, the process of online submission of application forms for admission to various UG and PG courses of the university for the next academic session will continue as usual, the last date being May 15.
“Patna Science College, Patna Law College and B N College along with other institutions located on Ashok Raj Path will be taken over by the local administration to ensure smooth and peaceful elections. People on election duty will stay in classrooms and special tents will be erected on the campus. Makeshift kitchens and toilets will also be constructed,” PU examination controller R K Mandal said, adding classes of almost all courses had been completed and academic activities would not be affected due to elections.
