Free Flight Tickets Cancellation Charges – If recent proposal by government passes in Parliament, You may, from August, be able to cancel your domestic air ticket within 24 hours of booking without any cancellation charges for flights that are at least four days away from departure. This will be a big relief for flyer as the cancellation charges are approx Rs 3000/- or base fare plus fuel surcharge.
Free cancellation will be effective in any type of tickets booked through airlines or through an agent or travel portals like makemytrip.com, goibibo.com etc while claiming the refund. A charter in this regard is presented by Aviation ministry and seek comments from all the stake holders. The final charter will be released in the month of July after considering all the feedback’s.
Aviation Ministry is also launching AirSewa app, which will be updated to allow passengers to get a unique “Digi-Yatra” ID number for paperless domestic travel using biometrics.
There are other provisions also in the draft charter like
- If an airline informs you 24 hours before departure of the domestic flight that it is delayed by over four hours, you could be entitled to a full refund.
- Airlines may have to offer compensation between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 to passengers for missing connecting flights due to the first flight being late. However, both the domestic flights for connecting passengers should be on one PNR — meaning on the same airline ticket.
- A full refund if an airline tells 24 hours before flight departure time that the flight is going to be delayed by over four hours.
