Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination, 2012 , The Union Public Service Commission published the notification for the Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination (SCRA), 2011 on 29th january 2012 for recruitment to the Special Class Apprentices in the Mechanical Department of India Railways.
The total number of vacancy is 42 out of which 4 seats are reserved for Physically OH. Reservation will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Disabled categories in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government.
Eligibility :
Age limits: Not less than 17 years and not more than 21 years on 01st August, 2011
The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the notice
Educational Qualification: Applicant must have passed in the first or second division, the Intermediate/ equivalent Examination /Higher Secondary (12 years) Examination under 10 plus 2 pattern of School Education of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.
Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as their Degree subjects may also apply.
Application Fee: Female/SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment of fee. Others have to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- by remitting the amount in any Branch of SBI by Cash or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master, Credit/Debit Card.

Syllabus of SCRA
The Examination will consist of two parts, with Part I being a Written Examination consisting of three papers :
Paper-I
General Ability Test (English, General Knowledge and Psychological Test),
Paper-II
Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) and
Paper-III
Mathematics, each of two hours duration and each carrying 200 marks.
The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective, multiple choice questions only, set in English only and approximately of the Intermediate standard.
Personality Test carrying a maximum of 200 marks
Penalty for Wrong Answers :
Candidates should note that there will be penalty ( Negative Marking ) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.
There is a Service Bond to execute if selected for SCRA with Indian railways.
Stipends and Other Benefit
The apprentices will be granted a stipend of Rs. 9100/- per month during the 1st and 2nd years and Rs. 9400/- per month during the 3rd year and first six months of 4th year and Rs 9700/- for last six months of 4th year.
After the completion of training period of 4 years , Successful apprentices will be appointed on probation for 18 months in the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers.
