SBI & Bank of Baroda Allow Work from Home’ for Employees

Bank of Baroda & SBI, the country’s largest bank, may come up with the option for working from home this week. Currently these banks are in the process of identifying functions and roles which can operate from home without affecting productivity. A big change is underway for conservative public sector Banks (PSBs), where compulsory physical presence in office could be a thing of the past, at least for a significant number of employees.

They are forced to adopt amid the Covid-19 outbreak and extension of lockdown. SBI and Bank of Baroda has started the process of identifying functions and roles which can operate from home without affecting productivity.

These companies have started providing laptops, videoconferencing app and set up the entire IT back end for 80% of its people to work from home. This will create a new work culture and environment.They mostly include staff in corporate, circle and regional offices. Enabling WFH needed setting up of IT backup and putting security systems in place. Now that the companies have already put in place the infrastructure, it will be much easier to institutionalize the WFH system.

This may bring the enhanced productivity, increased motivation and work life balance for the already stressed employees. The Covid-19 scenario has confirmed the belief that a good percent of administrative workforce can operate from home, thereby reducing stress on assets, while maintaining higher level of productivity.
