Delhi Police Raids Twitter India’s offices in ‘Congress Toolkit’ Case

Congress Toolkit Case recent updates – Delhi Police Special Cell has raided the Twitter India’s office in Lado Sarai, Delhi and Gurgaon. A search was carried out at the offices of Twitter India in connection to their preliminary enquiry into “Congress toolkit” case which is recently trending on Social Media. The officials of the Twitter India were also being questioned in relation to the alleged toolkit including the Twitter India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari. 

What is Congress Toolkit Case ?

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress party of creating a ‘toolkit’ that aims to tarnish the image of the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi by calling the new strain of coronavirus as”India strain” or the “Modi strain”.

The controversy over the alleged toolkit erupted after senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had shared a document which suggested a plot to tarnish the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his handling of COVID-19. The document, they alleged, was released by the opposition Congress party.

The Congress subsequently denied the involvement and said on Twitter that the documents were “fake” and created on a “forged letterhead” of the party’s research department. The opposition party demanded the suspension of the accounts of top BJP leaders including party chief JP Nadda and Union Minister Smriti Irani for allegedly spreading misinformation. The party also registered police complaints against the BJP leaders in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh for blaming the Congress for the alleged toolkit.

After receiving the input , the Twitter flagged the tweet of BJP spokersperson Sambit Patra in relation to the toolkit as “manipulated media”. In response to this the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had reportedly shown its disapproval over the prejudiced decision by the Twitter team to flag the tweets in connection to the toolkit as manipulated media.

“The government has asked Twitter to remove the tags affixed prejudicially to certain tweets in recent days in the interests of fairness and equity… Investigation will determine the veracity of the content, not Twitter,” a MeitY source was reported as saying.
