BARC was founded in 1954 as Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET). After the death of its illustrious pioneer Homi J. Bhabha’s in 1966, the centre was renamed as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
BARC is the primary nuclear research centre of India and its scope of research extends diverse fields like nuclear reactor design and installation, fuel fabrication, chemical processing of depleted fuel.

BARC Trainee Salary:
During the 1-year training period, BARC offers the trainee a consolidated monthly stipend of Rs.9300/=, after which they would be absorbed as Scientific Assistant (B) with pay-scale of Rs. 9300-34800.

Age Eligibility:
Min: 19 yrs, Max: 24 yrs. as on 01/05/2010. Age relaxations exists as per Govt. rule.
Educational Qualification Eligibility:
These trainee vacancies are for only Diploma in engineering subjects and B. Sc. in science subjects (Physics & Chemistry). If you have passed or appearing in M.Sc./Degree in Engg./AMIE/equivalent, you would not be considered.

Eligibility for engineering subjects:

Min 60% marks in Diploma (3 years after SSC or 02 years after HSC/B.Sc.).
Eligibility for Chemistry:
Minimum 60% marks in B.Sc. (with Chemistry as principal and Physics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Biology as subsidiary subjects)
Eligibility for Physics:
Minimum 60% marks in B.Sc. (with Physics as principal and Chemistry / Mathematics/ Statistics/ Biology as subsidiary subjects)
Eligibility for Computer Science:
Minimum 60 % marks in B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects (Physics subject in B.Sc. should be at least with equal weightage) and one year Diploma in Computer Science with minimum 60 % marks,

Selection process for BARC Trainee positions:
The selection process would consist of a written exam at Mumbai followed by interview. Written exam would be used for screening purpose to select the candidates for interview. But the final merit list would be based on interview alone – the marks scored in written exam would not be counted.
BARC written examination would be of one-hour duration, consisting of objective (multiple) type questions from your relevant disciplines. The syllabus for the BARC written examination will be based on subjects at Diploma/B.Sc. level as the case may be.
